                                                                      Spring Cutting Garden

The first in a series of seasonal watercoloring books based on artist Kristy Rice's cutting gardens Spring Cutting Garden   celebrates spring's profuse peonies, magnolias, pansies, and Eastern bluestar. In Summer Cutting Garden, summer's languid blossoms such as anemone, hollyhocks, coneflowers, and fuchsia flow from page to page. Her easy-to-learn, joy-driven approach includes simple tutorials on how to use watercolor and where to find affordable materials. A stationery-industry tastemaker, Kristy believes that making art, regardless of skill level, has the power to reconnect us to each other and ourselves. Touching brush to paper with water and color releases an inexplicable calm that so many of us long for, and making art, even in short bursts, brings us back to ourselves by slowing time. With 25 detailed illustrations in each book, artists are invited to continue the journey begun in her first watercoloring book series, Painterly Days.

                                                                               Review:
Both of these books open up, a la tri-fold, so that the prints are in the middle, and you have suggestions and directions on the left fold out, and the other to use as a backing sheet for not only stability while using water colors, but to protect the rest of the pages. The included glossary lets you know what the different flowers are, suggested colors, and painting techniques, but the end result is up to you!  The pages themselves are nice medium weight paper, quite suitable for grabbing the water colors and keeping them on the page! The pages themselves are perfect for framing, or for cutting down and making into smaller card size mailers for special occasions. Check out the series trailer:

Did you guess which flowers were real, and which weren't?

I have to admit, Kristy is pretty brave- I haven't ventured to doing any of those small space water colors yet! I've stuck with the larger flower prints!

WATERCOLOR COLLAGE

As you can see, the pictures are GORGEOUS in BOTH books, and each would make a lovely gift with a new set of watercolors for any artist in the family,  and one that will keep them occupied for awhile! Or give them to the adult who always wanted to try their hand at water colors! The smaller size and outlines allow for creativity, while helping the new artist on their way!

About the Author:

Author of the popular Painterly Days series of watercoloring books, Kristy Rice wears many hats—entrepreneur, mama, celebrity invitation designer, stylist—but her first love is painting. As a six-year-old just wanting to make art, she would hide under the bed covers with her art supplies and a flashlight. It was clear from the start that Kristy would use a paintbrush to make her mark on the world. Her obsession with paint and paper has evolved into an innovative brand, Momental Designs, which garners global attention from media, celebrities, and some of the world’s most creative individuals and iconic brands. Along with a team of nine inspiring women, Kristy continues to invigorate the worlds of styling, stationery, design, and art licensing.  Discover the world of Kristy Rice at kristyrice.com, at Instagram and Youtube, too!
